FAQ

Early Access

REKA is launching into Early Access on 12th September 2024! We will be launching into 1.0 in 2025.

REKA is available on Steam.

Early Access will allow us to work with our community to shape REKA and create a memorable experience for all who play. Your feedback from our playtest was exactly what we needed, and reading about what you enjoyed and what you’re hoping to see in the full game was incredibly helpful. We’re a small team of just 5 developers, so being able to include our players in REKA’s development journey is invaluable to us!

Since announcing we are launching into early access, we have included the heavily requested character customisation feature, additional furniture, and due to the interest in REKA’s lore and narrative, began working with award winning Rhianna Pratchett to enhance REKA’s world and story.

We want to continue collecting feedback on REKA from our players, to make sure we are working with you to deliver the best version of REKA possible by the time we launch into 1.0.

We can’t yet give a definitive date as this will largely depend on community feedback, however REKA will be in Early Access for the remainder of 2024, with 1.0 launching in 2025.

For launch week, we’ll have a 10% discount. Normally, the price will be £15.99 / $19.99 / €19.99.

During Early Access, we’ll be adding more content to the game and overall improving the experience. Therefore, we do expect the price to increase as we go into full release. We’ll give plenty of notice when this is likely to happen.

We’re planning on releasing REKA’s prologue and chapter one for Early Access launch. For 1.0 launch, the remaining chapters and REKA’s complete story will be available!

We plan to add new areas, quests, recipes, items and more with each update. We’re aiming for these updates to bring other elements too, like new accessories for your witch, furniture and side quests! We’ll share a roadmap closer to Early Access launch which will show you the new and exciting content that’s being added to the game.

REKA is being designed as a cozy, open world experience, so it’s difficult to put an exact number on game length. From our own internal play sessions, we have seen a variety in playtime, depending on how each person chooses to play the game. To get the full REKA experience, our recommendation is to take your time exploring the woodlands, speaking to villagers, solving quests and building out your chicken-legged cottage. In a relaxed playthrough of the initial Early Access launch content, we’d estimate this to be roughly between 6-8 hours.

We have designed REKA as a story-rich experience where players are encouraged to immerse themselves into the world, and while it’s possible to rush through certain moments, doing so will naturally lead to a shorter playtime. More content, including new quests, will be coming throughout Early Access, and we hope you enjoy the beginning of REKA’s journey!

Discord is our primary area to directly talk to our community and receive feedback, so we would like to encourage everyone to share their ideas in the suggestion-cauldron channel.

We’ll also continue to monitor feedback and communicate updates directly onto our other social channels, including the Steam forums and X (Twitter).

Yes! You’ll be able to find this on our Steam page in the game description section from the 11th of September.

You’ll be able to see details of what we have planned on our roadmap diagram on Steam. We will be continuing to flesh out new features during the Early Access journey, and will be communicating this with our community. Some things you can expect include new quests, continued story, more furniture items, new features such as crafting, and of course bug fixing!

There are currently no plans to launch REKA on consoles while we focus on the early access journey of REKA. If this changes do keep an eye on our social channels for news and updates.

Technical

REKA won’t be verified for EA launch, but we are looking into Steam Deck requirements and hope to be verified within our journey into 1.0. We’d recommend playing on PC to get the full experience.

Controller is mostly supported on Steam, though we are still aware of some features that need tweaks and polishing. We’ll continue to work on this through our early access journey.

For Early Access, REKA will be playable in English, French, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian.

Progress will not carry over from the demo/playtests, so you’ll need to start from the beginning

Steam Achievements are something we’re working on, but they won’t be ready for Day 1 of Early Access. We’ll let you know when they are being added.

Gameplay

Our aim for REKA is to be a relaxing and immersive experience where players can explore a world without threat, and we feel combat would hinder this vision we have for our game. There’s plenty of other features that we’re focusing on, and we hope you’ll enjoy the calmer, more enchanting gameplay that REKA offers!

REKA won’t be multiplayer. Our witchy game offers a deep atmospheric experience with housebuilding and exploration elements. We feel this theme is best suited for solo play.

REKA is heavily inspired by traditional Slavic witchcraft. The type of witchcraft you’ll perform will be very grounded and meaningful, and influenced by nature. Think rituals, cleansing etc!

The woodlands in REKA grow many ingredients that you can forage and store in your chicken-legged cottage, like honey, berries, wheat and more. You’ll have a traditional Slavic stove where you can create recipes and cook dishes. These dishes can then be used for quests, and used as part of rituals.

Some of the outfits will be available from the beginning, but you’ll unlock more whilst progressing in the game. You can get them as a reward for solving quests, buy some from the merchant and even find them hidden in the world.

Right now we’re just focusing on one body type for the main character for the Early Access launch, but we’re always keeping an eye on requests and feedback from the community.

The name first popped up on our radar because the Spree river that runs through Berlin was often called Reka (meaning ‘river’) by the local Slavic people. We have taken on that name and included it into the story – you are basically travelling along a river network throughout the game!
