Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition

Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is a remastered version of the cult turn-based strategy game released in 1999. The remaster is the result of a collaboration between Digital Eclipse studio and Team17, the company responsible for the series.

Gameplay

In Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition we watch the action from the side. During the game we take control of a unit of the titular worms and find ourselves in an arena where we fight a fierce battle, trying to defeat the opposing team. The remaster allows us to stand out from the competition thanks to various cosmetic items.

The game is turn-based. During our turn we take control of individual team members, move around the playing field and carry out attacks. We eliminate enemies by making use of a rich arsenal, which includes both fairly standard firearms and melee weapons, as well as more inventive murder tools, such as a mad cow, a banana bomb or a holy hand grenade. We can use standard methods to eliminate a given opponent by reducing their life points to zero, but it is often a better idea to push them into the water so that they will instantly drown.

Game modes

Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition can be played solo or in multiplayer mode. We can play with other players locally, as part of the so-called "hot seat", or online.

Additionally, there is a fully playable, 8-bit game available. It is Worms Armageddon from the Game Boy Color handheld. The icing on the cake is a special museum, where we can find various materials presenting the history of the series, among which interviews with the creators are the most prominent.

Technical aspects

While working on Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, the authors focused not only on the content of this remaster, but also on its graphic design. The whole thing has been adapted to panoramic resolutions and enriched with various filters. The control system, which has been optimized for controllers, as well as the new game state save system, also deserve attention.
