How do we develop, validate, and demonstrate our human skills?

- For the past century, we have built really sophisticated systems around teaching, training, credentialing, and assessing technical skills, the hard skills that have led to success in the knowledge economy. We have not done that for the human skills, the skills that sit at the intersection of EQ and IQ, but we're going to have to do that as a labor market, all over the world. It's going to take time, but those systems of teaching, training, credentialing, and assessing are coming. But between now and then, as you think about how to validate your human skills, how to get better at your human skills, realize that human skills are only as good as other humans think that they are in your day-to-day. If you are trying to persuade people, if you're trying to collaborate with people, that only makes sense if other people feel like you are doing that effectively. So, there are two things to really focus on as you think about developing and validating your human skills. First, make sure you're really good at getting feedback from other humans. Ask how you're doing, ask how you're collaborating, ask how you're communicating, and really take that feedback to heart, and start to adjust based on how the humans around you are reacting to your skills. And where you need to get better at humans skills, guess what? This is where AI becomes a tool that you can really leverage. Use AI to help you learn about techniques to develop any of those five core human skills we talked about. Use AI to quiz you or interview you, or put you in scenarios where you have to use those human skills ahead of the moments where you have to do it with other humans. We are quickly going to see all the systems emerge around human skills that we saw emerge in the past century around technical skills, around hard skills. But in the interim, you can focus on getting better at human skills by how you're showing up every day with other humans, and by how you're using AI as a tool to teach and train you.
