Update (September 17)

According to information provided by China-based journalist Daniel Camilo, the premiere of the first expansion for the action RPG Black Myth: Wykong could take place in the first months of 2025. Game Science studio may be planning the DLC's debut around Chinese New Year, which falls on January 29.

Original news (September 5)

More than two weeks have passed since the premiere of Black Myth: Wukong, so the developers from the Game Science studio attempted to summarize the sales results. According to information provided to Bloomberg, the action RPG sold 18 million copies in 14 days.

Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad estimates that Black Myth: Wukong has already generated $700 million in revenue worldwide (other estimates suggest as much as $1 billion). As a result, the game, which took 6 years and $70 million to develop, "is one of the fastest-selling games of all time, only overshadowed by games like GTA V and MW2" (Daniel Ahmad on X).

The developers' ambitions far exceed this undoubtedly amazing result. They predict that the game, which draws heavily on Chinese mythology, could sell as many as 30 million copies.

Additional information: currently the developers have no plans for a sequel. Instead, they want to focus on releasing a DLC to the base game that will drive sales of the game again. FromSoftware took a similar move, releasing the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion this year.

Let's also not forget that according to unofficial reports from a few days ago, Game Science studio is planning to release two DLCs for Wukong. However, this issue wasn't addressed in the interview with Bloomberg.
