Since yesterday, everyone who has bought Frostpunk 2 Deluxe Edition can play the game earlier. Unfortunately, like in the case of many recent titles, this strategy has some technical issues, like poor performance even on high end computers.

Performance Issues in Frostpunk 2 Explained

Frostpunk 2 on PC does not work very well. Many players complain about number of FPS not proportional to the processing power of their computers – especially when you launch the game in higher resolutions with ultra graphics settings. It seems that even if someone has RTX 4090, it is possible that the game won’t work in more than 80-90 FPS. Of course, the issues are the worst in the case of bigger cities. In the prologue, where you don’t have to build too much, you probably won't experience such performance problems.

In some cases, the FPS counter is even lower. Some people report having about 30 FPS owning RTX 4080 or 4090. If you are one of them, it is likely that you have a bottle neck in your computer. What does it mean? One of the components in PC is outdated and makes it impossible for newer hardware elements to operate at maximum efficiency.

In my case the performance isn’t that bad. Frostpunk 2 works in 70-80 FPS on PC with RTX 3070 Ti, Ryzen 9 6900HX and 32 GB RAM. However, my city is not that big, so probably it will get worse later on. Still, I see some problems. The game starts up very slowly, despite being installed on a high-speed SSD drive – on Samsung 980 PRO.
