HSBC has demonstrated the first application of quantum-secure technology for tokenized physical gold in partnership with Quantinuum and the commercialisation of quantum technologies in critical industries just took a major step forward. HSBC and Quantinuum recognise that quantum-safe security must address both cryptographic algorithms and key quality. To demonstrate how to prevent “store now, decrypt-later” cyber incidents for their gold tokens, they combined our Quantum Origin #QRNG with post-quantum cryptographic (#PQC) algorithms. As long-time partners with HSBC, Quantinuum is building the next generation of financial services featuring quantum-hardened defences that harness the power of our quantum computers to safeguard sensitive data. Watch this space for more developments as Quantinuum’s multi-year engagement with some of the worlds largest organisations starts to become applicable in real world settings. Large language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT are having an impact on society across many walks of life. However, there are deep-seated and systemic problems that come with AI systems built around LLMs. In particular, these “black boxes” aren’t interpretable, meaning we can’t reliably or efficiently control or predict their behavior. At Quantinuum, we are taking a different approach to AI – focusing on scalability and interpretability. Our Compositional Intelligence team, led by Prof. Bob Coecke, has been working on natural language processing (NLP) using quantum computers for some time now and has shown promising results. Our recent experiments demonstrate that our approach makes it possible not only to train a model in a scalable manner, but also do so in a way that is interpretable. We are bringing the commercial tipping point to quantum computing sooner than previously thought possible with our future systems. Last week, we unveiled our accelerated hardware roadmap which delivers a fully fault-tolerant and universal quantum computer capable of executing millions of operations on hundreds of logical qubits by the end of the decade. In this technical perspective, Dr. Harry Buhrman, Chief Scientist for Algorithms and Innovation, and Dr. Chris Langer, Fellow, go into detail about our future systems – Quantinuum Helios, Sol, and Apollo – and our path to ushering in an era of scientific discovery in physics, materials, chemistry, and more with our quantum computers.
