The boss uses a simple attacks of his pike, charge attacks, skills, and ranged attacks, in which a vortex cannon deals damage to everything in its path in a wide range of damage (but not when you are standing next to the horse). Key tips:

  1. It's safe to usually make 2-3 cuts with the sword when you are near the enemy, after which you need a counter-attack his strike.
  2. Try to counter at the perfect moment - you'll reduce your enemy's posture faster and might be able to deal a critical hit before reducing the boss's health bar.
  3. You have little time to cause a critical strike - as soon as you see the red dot on the body of the enemy, do not miss the opportunity and perform a fatal blow with a sword.
  4. Use prosthesis like Shinobi Firecracker and Fistful of Ash item: they will confuse the horse. In that short time, you can safely execute a longer series of attacks.
Tip: the first strikes can be applied already when the boss enters the arena and presents himself - in this stage the opponent is not attacking, but takes blows - Gyoubu Oniwa | Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Boss Fight - Bosses - Sekiro Guide and Walkthrough
